Seattle Washington
Temple #34
Seattle, Washington
May 15, 2015
Seattle! A highlight of the North West, and another highlight on our road trip. It was also Vera’s birthday, making it more exciting. It was a foggy and cloudy day as we drove into Seattle, which is common to the area. We first went to the temple, which is east of the city, near I-90 and upon a small hill.
The Seattle Temple was another beautiful temple, surrounded by pine trees, large spaces of grass, and vibrant flowers. The landscape was beautiful, including a water fountain and much greenery. It is a unique shape of a temple, being different than any of the ones we had done that trip. The spire wasn't solid, but different pillars coming together to create one.
The Angel Moroni on this temple is different and unique. It is one of the only ones that is holding gold plates, and it also faces west like the Spokane Temple.
The temple was older, being the nineteenth temple built, and built in 1975. It had an older 70’s feel, yet it was still gorgeous on the inside. We did a session, loved our experience, and then went outside.
The sky had cleared up, and so we took a few more pictures. There was a extremely vibrant flower bush with massive pink flowers on it, and so Vera and Ivy took pictures in front of it for Vera’s birthday.
We had now done all the temples in Washington, and were impressed. It was a fantastic trip, but still not quite over. We then went into the city, and were so ecstatic that the clouds had disappeared and it was mostly sunny.
We walked around downtown, went to the top floor of a skyscraper, and loved the view. We were able to see the harbor, most of the city, Mt. Rainier, and the space needle. Afterwards we walked to the street where the walls are covered in chewed-up bubblegum. It was a little disgusting, but quite a colorful and neat thing to see.
Right next to the bubblegum street was Pike Market, where fresh fish and produce are sold. It was smelly, fun, entertaining as people threw fish back and forth, and hundreds of flowers gave off their fragrant smells.
We found a nice place to eat with a view of the harbor, and enjoyed fish and chips that were so delicious. No better place to get fish and chips than Seattle!
We had a blast, Vera, Darcy, Ivy and I, but our week long trip had to come to an end. Since Darcy and Vera rented the car, they had to drop it off at the airport. Our flight was from Bellingham airport, while theirs was from Seattle-Tacoma airport. We said farewell to Ivy’s parents, and then took a shuttle bus to Bellingham Airport.
It was a magnificent trip, with great memories that we’ll have forever. It's always a blast traveling with others, especially Ivy's parents Vera and Darcy. It's also nice to rent a car, making traveling extremely easy, especially compared to trying to travel with only public transportation.
We had made plans to visit all the Washington State Temples, and we had accomplished that, adding in Vancouver and Portland. We were soon realizing that we were truly beginning to fulfill our dreams. After only a year and a half of marriage, we had done thirty-four temples. We knew if we continued to work at it, we truly had a chance to go to every temple in the world. Especially if we focused every trip on the temples, just as we had done in Arizona and Washington.
We love the temples!
