Copenhagen Denmark Temple
Temple #75
Copenhagen, Denmark
6/8/2017
Copenhagen! Ivy and I were extremely excited to be in Denmark. Ivy's dad served his mission in Denmark and ever since she was little she wanted to go to Copenhagen and especially the Copenhagen temple when it was built and dedicated in 2004.
Before we got to Denmark we had been checking the weather to see if it would be nice. We had been extremely lucky while on our vacation because it was supposed to rain everywhere yet it had been sunny mostly everywhere. When we looked at the weather for Copenhagen though it said every day for two weeks was rainy and cloudy. So Ivy and I, especially Ivy, prayed hard hoping for some nice weather in Copenhagen.
We flew in through some clouds expecting it to be cloudy, and it was slightly, but when we arrived in Copenhagen by train it was sunny with a flew clouds and it was warm! We were so ecstatic! We walked around the old town of Copenhagen and enjoyed the views. We went to an old, beautiful section of the town with lots of old colorful buildings. It was a little windy but we were so happy it was sunny.
We then went to the Church of Our Lady where the original Christus sculpture is. It was neat to have just seen the newest copy of the Christus in Paris and then to see the original in Copenhagen. It was a quaint little Cathedral and we enjoyed the sculptures within.
We then headed towards the temple which was one of the main reasons why we came to Copenhagen. We went and waited at a bus station and sat next to an old man. We talked a little while waiting for our bus and the man told us we were extremely lucky to have such nice weather because the past two weeks had been nothing but rain. We couldn't believe our luck and we knew it was our prayers and faith that brought the wonderful weather.
We were hungry at this time and there was a grocery store across the street so we ran across the street to grab some food for sandwiches. We were checking out when we noticed the bus we wanted pulled up to the bus stop. We ran outside but missed the bus. We were sad because we didn't want to miss the session at the temple. We went to the bus stop and waited longer with the old man. He then asked where we were going and we told him, so he told us which bus to take and we were happy to find out we were going to take the wrong bus, so all was well.
We were nearly to the temple and the bus driver knew where we were going by how we were dressed and pointed at the temple when we passed it. We got off the bus and Ivy couldn't help but run to the temple she was so excited!
The temple sits on a street of red bricked buildings and matches them with the same colored brick. It used to be a chapel before it was a temple as well which was neat. We went up to the temple and took some pictures. It was small and simple, but gorgeous along with the weather. We sat down on a bench in the sun and ate some sandwiches while we waited for the temple to open.
We went in the second it was opened to us. A temple worker then gave us a small tour showing us the baptismal font and a spiral staircase in the corner of the building.
The baptismal room was very unique and pretty. It had a massive mural of Christ and his followers on the wall that was wonderfully done. The people in the mural were actually painted to look like famous people from Denmark. Above the font was a dome with some sunlights in it. This dome can be seen from outside to the side of the temple and is a fountain.
We then went and did a session and we loved it, of course. There were more murals in the other rooms and they were just as gorgeous, representing the landscape of Copenhagen. The Celestial Room was also stunning and had a large dome up above with a small window in it. On the outside it looked like just another brick building, but on the inside it was definitely the House of God, and it was breathtaking.
We left the temple and went back into the world. It was colder and cloudy, and we knew that we had been blessed with good weather. We headed back to the airport and it started to sprinkle and we knew that we were blessed.
After Denmark we flew to Greece where we enjoyed the rest of our trip in Athens and on the amazing island of Santorini, which we loved. We then flew back to Russia, somehow made it to a Piano Guys devotional, and after spending a night at the airport, flew back home to Utah.
We had an amazing time in Russia and Europe, ending our adventure perfectly. We loved Copenhagen, and we also loved all of the temples. They were the highlights of our trips and they are also the highlights of the world. Go and travel, and go to the temple!
