Vernal Utah Temple

Temple #21
Vernal, Utah

The land of the Dinosaurs; Vernal Utah. This was a fun trip we made to the North-Eastern part of Utah, just for the purpose of going to the temple.

One weekend Ivys’ mom, Vera, decided to take us to the Vernal Temple. Ivys’ sister Heidi was up for the weekend and had some time off while her husband Trevor worked. Vera was the only one of us who had been to the Vernal Temple, and so there we went.
It was a beautiful drive to get there, to a point. We went up and through part of the Uintas, and than eventually hit desert. There is some pretty scenery out there, but it's also very desolate. Passing over the Unitas and mountains is my favorite part, and there is something about the red rock and desert that is still fascinating in ways.
It was fun to see a new part of Utah for me. Ivy and Heidi had done baptisms in the Vernal Temple before, but never a session, so this was a fun experience.
Vernal is a town somewhat in the middle of nowhere. It's also a neat little town and has an old feeling to it, as if you somewhat go back in time.
While there we had to go see the dinosaur statues. We didn't go see any of the fossils or footsteps because of our hurry, but we saw the fun statues that welcome you into the town, and quickly got a picture.
We parked across the street from the Temple, and I admired it as I got out of the car. It's smaller, once being an old church tabernacle building. It's a beautiful red color, and I'm glad they kept it that way. It makes it unique and anomalous. It's red brick stands out for sure, and the two dome steeples on top make it look more rustic and old.
We took our picture, then went into the temple. There is a stain glass picture of Christ which you can see from the outside and inside, which is beautifully done.
The Vernal Temple is smaller, but still wonderful. The outside is old, being built in 1907, but the steeples and the inside of the temple are new and gorgeous. We had a great session, the four of us, and left the temple smiling.
Afterwards we followed a somewhat tradition of going to Café Rio, one of our favorite Mexican style restaurants. We go to Café Rio a lot after or before temples whenever we go in Utah. If you've never been, go.
After that, we headed back home. It was about a two and a half hour drive to Vernal, and about the same back. It was a quick trip, just a day, but it was worth it. It's always great spending time with family, and especially if that time is spent going to the temple. It has brought Ivys family and us closer together. The Temple brings families together not just for the next life, but for this life as well.
