Calgary Alberta Canada Temple

Temple #81
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
10/18/17

Our vacation in Canada continued and it never ceased to be amazing! After Jasper National Park we went and stayed in Golden. It's a fun little town on the other side of the mountains. We then went to Glacier National Park of Canada, Yoho National Park, Kootenay National Park, and finally Banff National Park. 2017 was an anniversary for the National Parks of Canada and so we were able to get a free pass, hence why we went to so many National Parks.

They were all beautiful and stunning, yet Jasper was still our favorite. We spent a few days driving around all the parks, and then headed East away from the mountains. Immediately after leaving the mountains the scenery was mostly flat with some rolling hills. The massive mountains behind us faded into the horizon as we approached Calgary.
Calgary seemed like another large city with not a lot to do. Ivy and I, and Ivy's parents, love the mountains and scenery of the world. Cities to us are fairly boring so we don't usually spend much time in them. In Calgary we only spent one night at that was enough. The main thing we did there was go shopping and buy delicious No Name Brand chips and drinks.
That night when we got to Calgary we went to the temple to do a session. It was just about at sunset that we got there and it was a pretty view. The Calgary Temple sits upon a small hill that somewhat overlooks all of Calgary. We could also see the mountains in the West which we had just come from.
The temple looked like the Kiev Temple to us. It had one steeple in the middle and the building was large and mostly square. We went in and enjoyed a good session. The first room had a large mural of the gorgeous mountains to the West. Apparently in also had little bees painted somewhere within the mural but we never saw them.
Another thing throughout the entire temple in the motifs, decorations and in the woodwork and stonework was wheat designs and decor. Calgary is known for its wheat, which was interesting since Kiev too had wheat designs throughout its temple and the temples were both very similar in style.
It was a beautiful temple with a beautiful view and we highly enjoyed going with Ivy's parents. After Calgary we headed south to Lethbridge where we met up with my missionary companion Brett Fibke at the popular Canadian restaurant/doughnut shop of Tim Hortons. We got some Timbits and sat and chatted for a while which was fun.
We then dropped off our car and Ivy's aunt Patti and Ivy's Grandma Ivy came and picked us up. They were already in Montana so everything worked out perfect for them to pick us up.
We then went and did the Cardston Temple, which we had done before but it had been a few years, it being the second temple we did together. It was fun to go again and see how unique and gorgeous that temple is, especially since we had now done so many other temples and so really noticed how unique it was.

Our trip wasn't finished yet, but we finally crossed back into America that same day. We were also lucky enough to see a black bear just outside of Glacier National Park which was fun. Vera had never seen a bear so it was a fun experience.

Calgary, the Calgary Temple, and the National Park did Canada were amazing. We had such a fun trip and we love talking about it to everyone. We recommend everyone to go to Banff and Jasper National Parks sometime in their lives because they are some of the most beautiful mountains and scenery we've seen. And if you go, make sure to go to Tim Hortons, get some No Name Brand Chips and Drinks, and go to the temples!
