Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Temple #96
Tegucigalpa, Honduras Temple
May 12, 2018

Our next stop and country was Honduras! To get from Belize, to El Salvador and then to Honduras we bought a ticket to Honduras with a long layover in El Salvador. It was cheaper than two separate flights by a few hundred dollars and so was totally worth it. The only problem was the flight we had to Tegucigalpa Honduras arrived late, and so we only had thirty minutes to get to the temple for the last session.
We had done the San Salvador Temple that morning and had to do the Tegucigalpa temple the same day since it was Saturday. It was beautiful flying into the city though. It's a valley of hills surrounded by small mountains and buildings covering every hill and mountain. We could see the temple as we flew in and we were so excited to go!
We got a taxi and rushed to the temple and luckily it was only eight minutes away. The temple is on a large hill and can be seen the entire way from the airport. It was impressive and magnificent up on the hill as we drove up to it. It had massive grounds larger than nearly any other temple we’ve seen. It had terraces and flowers, trees and plants surrounding it.
We were too late for a session but we were able to do sealings. The temple was almost identical in its floor plan to the San Salvador Temple. It has two stories and the upstairs is where we went first. The windows were massive and beautiful with stained glass that shined like a rainbow as light hit it. It was just brilliant!
We did sealings in Spanish and that was fun. Went into the Celestial room and it was very similar to the one in San Salvador Temple but instead of blues it had more gold. The temple also had many flowers in everything as a decoration. The flower was on the walls, decor, furniture, carpet and even the door handles. We found out it was the country’s flower, a type of orchid.
In the temple a lady asked us how we were able to travel to all the temples and why we spent all of our money doing so. We explained our love for the temple and how we save all of our  money and travel very frugally. She was impressed and happy with us but also very surprised. It may seem like a crazy thing yet most people travel just to travel, so why not travel with a purpose. We often get asked why we are there in the temple we’re at. We get asked if it's because we served a mission in the country or have family there. People are always surprised to hear our answers.
After the temple we walked across the street to temple housing. We were able to sit and view the temple as the sunset. It was a beautiful view. We always love temple housing, it's so convenient, clean and the workers are friendly.
In the morning we took photos and then we went to the church across the parking lot and went to sacrament. The people were so friendly and kind there and we wish we could have stayed longer. We then walked to the airport, which was only a few miles away. It was fun walking and looking behind us and seeing the temple on the hill. It could be seen by nearly the entire city and we loved it.
We ate some burritos on the way to the airport for 15 Lempiras a piece, which is 65 cents USD. We eventually got to the airport and were so happy that we got the yellow fever vaccine in Monterrey otherwise they wouldn't have let us onto the plane. It was quite a tender mercy that we had the shot and were now able to go to Panama. We boarded the plane and were now headed to Panama for another temple!
