San Salvador Temple
Temple #95
San Salvador, El Salvador Temple
May 12, 2018
We said goodbye to Ivy's parents and aunt in Belize and then flew to El Salvador. It was late so instead of grabbing a bus we took a taxi. It was about a forty minute drive to our hotel. It was hard to find because it was just an older ladies home and she turned it into a hostel to meet people. She only spoke Spanish so that was hard but she was very nice to us. We got ice cream that night and that's when we realized they use US Dollars.
We then walked to the temple in the morning. It was a mile or two away but it was a nice walk. As we came around a corner the temple was right in front of us! It was large, brilliant and it stood out amongst everything else. It was beautiful with large temple grounds of grass, flowers, trees, a church and another building that had a cafeteria, distribution center and a waiting area.
The temple is square with two stories and has a large spire in the center. We took pictures on the front lawn and then went to go inside and there was a line out the door of women! We were nervous at first as we went in because we thought we wouldn't make the session but we were still able to make it.
The session was completely full though and they even brought in a few chairs. There were only six men and then 39 women! They filled the entire room! Ivy sat right behind me which was fun. The first room had a beautiful mural as usual. The building had a bit of blue in the decor and decorations that were pretty.
After the temple we went and ate at the cafeteria across from the temple, a delicious meal of chicken, stuffed peppers, Spanish rice, some type of meatloaf and a noodle salad. It was delicious and cheap!
We met a stake president there who talked to us for a while. Very nice guy and he helped us get a taxi back to the airport. It was all perfect timing and although we weren't able to see much in El Salvador the temple was enough. And the taxi ride was an hour and so we saw a lot. If we had to find our own taxi we may have been late to the airport so it was a little blessing.
We had heard El Salvador wasn't the safest and so we only gave ourselves a little time there, but afterwards realized that it was safe there and wish we had more time. It was a beautiful area and the people were incredibly nice. We loved the temple there and couldn't wait for our next country!
