Lubbock Texas

Temple #36
August 18, 2015
Lubbock, Texas

     Onward to good ol’ Texas!
Ivy and I were headed to Texas, and not just for a vacation. Ivy's cousin and her family live in Scroggins Texas, a small, really small, town two hours east of Dallas. They manage a ranch resort there, and offered us jobs! I was to repair and remodel cabins, while Ivy was a receptionist. We prayed about it, and knew we needed to go. Our answer also included the instruction to visit as many temples as possible while there, which we ended up doing.
I served my mission in Fort Worth Texas from 2010-2012, and absolutely loved it! Texas is kind of hot, flat and humid, but the food and the people are great! I never thought I’d be moving back though, and never really wanted to, so this was quite the surprise.
We packed up our car to the brim, and started driving. We were heading out on faith, knowing everything would work out. We had a place to live there, provided by the ranch resort, and so we knew we could easily handle this new adventure.
Our drive started off beautiful. We drove first to Horseshoe Bend in Arizona, stopped by the four corners, and then stayed the night in Santa Fe. The next day we got our brakes replaced in Albuquerque because they were squealing and worn down. We then stopped by the beautiful Albuquerque Temple, and then headed east.
Once we drove over the mountain behind Albuquerque, everything changed. Mountains and trees disappeared, and nothing but farms and grasses could be seen as far as the flat horizon stretched. Funny enough, when we crossed into Texas, we were only halfway to our destination.

Eventually we made it to Lubbock, Texas, which isn't much of a sight to see either. It's a fairly good sized town, and is at least busy enough to have a temple.
We stayed the night, and then went to the Lubbock Temple early in the morning. It was a smaller temple, but still beautiful, inside and out. It also had stained glass windows throughout it, as most temples do, which we loved.
One thing I have not mentioned before is how we always get our pictures. Lately we have been spoiled with a camera on a tripod set on a timer, but before that we have always had to rely on others in the parking lot. Luckily enough there is always someone willing enough to help us with our picture, and sometimes we take one for them in return.
After the temple we drove through the heart of Texas, through Fort Worth and Dallas. It was neat to see my mission area, and it brought back many memories. Hours later we finally made it to Scroggins!
Our adventure in Texas had just started, and we had so much to look forward to. Texas has four temples, and there are a few states nearby with temples as well. We couldn't wait to explore the South and its’ temples!
