Guatemala City Temple

Temple #93
Guatemala City Temple
May 5, 2018

We were finally leaving Mexico, but as sad as we were we were still really excited to explore the new country of Guatemala. After Oaxaca we had a seven hour layover in Mexico City, so we took an Uber for five minutes to the temple, a perfect way to enjoy a layover. We didn't go in but we went into the visitor center which was full of so much to do!
After a while at the visitor center we went back to the airport and then flew to Guatemala. We rented our car and drove to the temple. We arrived there around midnight and we were able to stay at temple housing which was nice. I had called a few weeks before to get temple housing because it's usually our favorite and it's the most convenient. Temple housing is also usually really nice like a good hostel or hotel.
This one was more like a hostel where we all shared one room with three bunk beds and then shared the bathrooms and showers with everyone else in the housing. In the morning we woke up at 5:30 on accident because we didn't know there was a time change and our phones hadn't changed for us. By the time we realized this we were all already awake and so we got ready and went to the temple.
The Guatemala City Temple is just like the Dallas and Chicago temple, and many others of its time. It has six spires with three in front and three in the back and it has no windows. Now that it was light outside we could see the surrounding city and area. The temple housing and temple grounds were beautiful with greenery and flowers. There were hills around us covered in thick jungle trees and some buildings. It was all beautiful and we were so excited to be in Guatemala although we were exhausted.
We went into the temple and did sealings because we were planning on doing the Quetzaltenango Temple that same day. We did half in English and half in Spanish which was a neat experience. Afterwards went to the Celestial room which was simple and brilliant.
Afterwards we took pictures together and then ate a good Guatemalan meal across the street at the temples cafeteria. We had fried bananas, mashed beans, bread and an oatmeal drink. It was very traditional and good. We always love eating at the temple cafeterias if we can because they're always cheap and traditional food of where we ate.
The temple was a good way to start off in Guatemala. We immediately headed West after that towards our next stop in Quetzaltenango. The road was a gorgeous drive through the mountains and it was neat to see the countryside. We were already falling in love with Guatemala and we had just arrived!
