Church in Mexico

Church in México
January 14, 2018

Ivy and I started a new adventure; Mexico! It's land full of beautiful beaches, thick jungles, ancient ruins, kind people and delicious foods! Ivy had been a few times but I never had and so it was a good option to go.
To go back in time a little, Ivy and I have talked a few times about how to get to all the Mexico temples. There are thirteen in all and we hadn't been to any. We considered doing a crazy long road trip but it seemed a little scary driving through Mexico.
After we came back from Europe we considered driving through Mexico but it was a little scary. We thought about going to Mexico through ILP but they didn't have any housing for couples, only girls. So we kind of pushed that thought away.
It was now summer and Ivy and I weren't sure what to do with our lives. We were still living at Ivy’s parents and enjoying free rent but we felt like we should move on. We started looking at homes and lots to buy for our own.
We found a cheap plot of land in Kamas and started seriously looking into it. We had meetings set up, talked to contractors and also to the banks. It felt like we were about to buy land!
Suddenly we ran into a problem; Ivy had great credit, I had plenty of money, yet I had no credit history at all, which the bank didn't like. They declined the loan and we had no other choice so we couldn't buy the land. We were pretty sad but knew it would all work out. So I got some credit cards and started to build my credit.
I then emailed the realtor and told him we couldn't get the land. We then planned on buying some in a year or so once my credit history was better.
That same day I got a call from ILP, about three hours after I declined the land offer. They said that they got couple housing in Mexico if we wanted to go, and they needed to know within three days.
Ivy and I were ecstatic! We took two days to decide but we both knew what we wanted to do; go to Mexico! It was an answer to our questions and prayers to how we could get to all the Mexico Temples. We accepted and began making plans. We couldn't wait to go to Mexico.
Fast forward to January 2018 and we were now in Mexico! We met the rest of our group at the Queretaro airport and then met our Mexican coordinators Sergio and Lulu. It's always crazy arriving to a new country and to your new home for four months. It was a beautiful house though and we got our own room with a domed, brick roof. We lived with Sergio and Lulu and so did the rest of the group.

We quickly fell in love with everything! From the food, to the students we taught and to the coordinators we lived with we loved it all. We were so excited to be in Mexico and couldn't wait to start going on vacations and going to the temples.
Our first Sunday to church was fun but a new experience. Church was held at the school on the second level in a large classroom. It was in Spanish, of course, but it was quaint and exciting. It was awesome too that our coordinators Sergio and Lulu were members and came to church with us and their son Sergio was the branch president.
Church was neat as we sat and listened to the speakers speak in Spanish, the hymns sung in Spanish and the prayers said in Spanish. It was difficult, but when we sung a song to which we recognized we still felt the spirit.
We sang Nearer My God to Thee, one of my favorite hymns, and I was filled with the spirit. I knew that we were meant to be in Mexico, that Ivy and I were being guided by the Lord in all that we do and that there were no coincidences or accidents. God has a plan for all of us and I testify of that because of all we have seen. We were so excited to be in Mexico and couldn't wait to experience everything it had to offer!
