Chicago Illinois Temple

Temple #61
Chicago, Illinois
April 8, 2016

Chicago Illinois was our next stop, and it was a fun one. We started off by going to the temple and doing a session. The Chicago temple is nearly identical to the Boise Idaho and the Dallas Texas temples. The set up is the same with a short, pitched roof and six pointed spires. It's a beautiful building, as are its sister buildings.
It was the thirty-fifth temple built and has gone through a bit of remodeling. We really enjoyed our session as we went through and it was very similar to the Dallas temple which we had been too just a few months earlier.
The temple was great and we loved it as always. Going to each temple on our trip home gave us a purpose while traveling, making it more enjoyable doing all that driving. In all the chaotic cities the temples were a safe haven with peace and quiet inside. In Chicago though we did go and enjoy the city, unlike a few of the other cities we passed through.
We first drove through Chicago, admiring all the tall buildings, including the Sears tower. We drove along the lake and then into downtown. It was fairly crowded but nothing like New York. The weather was a little cloudy and stormy, yet when we parked and walked out of the parking garage it was sunny and warm!

We walked around downtown, going to a few of the famous sights. We went to “the Bean,” or the Cloud Gate sculpture, that is a giant bean-shaped, stainless steel piece of art. We then walked around some more and got some pictures of me riding a brass bull. We of course also had pizza while we were there, eating at Giordanos, which had the most delicious deep dish pizza ever! Didn't even finish it and had left overs, which is rare for us when eating just one pizza.

Chicago was a fun city with a good downtown. We wish we could have stayed longer but we were always too excited to move on to the next temple. We went back to our car and found that I had left it unlocked. It was packed with all of our belongings and by some miracle nothing was touched. We were definitely being watched over.
The temple was great and beautiful and Chicago was fun. There are three must-do’s when going to Chicago that we recommend: Walk downtown and see the artwork, eat some Chicago deep dish pizza, and go to the temple. Each temple is unique in its own way, and even if they weren't they are still worth it to go to and see.
